The American Association for the Advancement of Science inducted nine Indiana University leaders, including President Michael A. McRobbie, as 2019 fellows on Feb. 15 during a ceremony in Seattle.
The honor is bestowed to those who've made outstanding contributions to the progress of science and research. McRobbie was honored for his contributions to the field of informatics, particularly in the development of high-speed computing, network development, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
AAAS President, Nobel-prize-winning physicist and former Energy Secretary Steve Chu presented McRobbie with a rosette pin during a ceremony honoring the fellows.
IU South Bend Chancellor Susan Elrod was also inducted as an AAAS fellow.
The inductees were also honored during the IU Alumni Association's Bicentennial Celebration of Science at IU in Seattle Feb. 16. The event celebrated the university's leadership role in science and research over the past 200 years.
